La Vida Local: Small Business Saturday
It’s that most wonderful time of the year…already! Soon we’ll be inundated with messages/flyers/commercials/circulars/emails about “Black Friday” and its web-based cousin “Cyber Monday”. Every Big Box Store will be flaunting its wares at prices so outrageous you’ll be inclined to join the stampedes at 5am.
But what about the little, local stores? The small businesses that drive your community, the folks you know and love. How can they benefit from holiday shoppers lacking the marketing budgets of their Big Box kin? Answer: Small Business Saturday.
With Amex OPEN leading the charge and joined by advocates like The 3/50 Project, Girls Inc., and Facebook, Small Business Saturday is a national movement to drive shoppers to local merchants across the U.S.
Taking place on November 27th, Small Business Saturday will help to recognize the importance of small, independently owned businesses to the overall economy and local communities.
In Providence, there’s a great list of local vendors and holiday craft shows over at kidoinfo.com. A quick Google search or glance in the paper will likely provide a similar list in your area. So get on out there on Saturday! Take the family and burn off some Thanksgiving calories by walking to your favorite local store or hitting up a craft show and giving small shops a bit of your holiday business.
Oh, and if you run your own small business, head over to the Facebook site for information about how to receive a $100 Facebook advertising credit to help you build online buzz and drive customers to spend at your businesses on the 27th.
Happy holidays (and shopping!) from all of us at BatchBlue.

Thanks for the heads up!
Jim
